Date: 2008-10-01 04:22 am (UTC)Okay, what's the point here?
Katie Couric asks a dumb question and Sarah Palin refuses to get trapped by it?
What difference would it have made had Palin regurgitated a canned line like "I read the Washington Post, the New York Times, the LA Times, and I always watch you on TV Katie!" Would that have been better?
Has anyone asked Obama this sort of question? Did anyone ask Hillary this sort of tripe? How about Biden? What thrilling bits of journalistic excellence does Joe Biden plagiarize from each day? Oh, I mean, what does Joe read that makes him so much less qualified than Hillary to be Veep?
The degree of viciousness being directed toward Palin is way over the top. And this sorta thing is actually serving to drive people _toward_ her and the GOP ticket. For Democrats, this sort of bile is truly counterproductive.

Date: 2008-10-01 06:16 am (UTC)I would have been happy to hear the name of one or two Alaska papers she has delivered to the Governor's Mansion. Alaska papers carry national news the last I looked. They all write about her, she's got to do at least an ego-scan every day.
If Katie was asking a dumb question, Palin didn't avoid the trap. She jumped right into it. She gave a bullshit answer and tap-danced. It made her sound like someone who doesn't read news. That's a problem, because print news can carry so much more content than radio or TV news.
What kind of person doesn't know where they get their news from? I know the newspapers of every town I ever lived in (well, except Eau Claire, but I read the WSJ when I lived in Eau Claire). What kind of journalist (and granted, Palin was a sportscaster, but I'll give her the benefit of the doubt) isn't a news wonk?

Date: 2008-10-01 05:35 am (UTC)I think Couric needs to focus on more important questions, like "will the McCain Administration find Bigfoot?" and "should the NFL scrap the 'icing' rule?"
Um...hey there don't cha know...Before Putin rears his head...
Date: 2008-10-01 07:33 am (UTC)My goodness, she can read...
Date: 2008-10-01 07:35 am (UTC)I don't care for Sarah. She makes McCain look too old. I don't care for McCain either. In fact, I'm weary of the whole bunch. Tho' I've always liked Joe.
