Cranky...

Well, I just (earlier this week) installed Mozy Home on our tower and started backing up. This is a relatively good thing. Comcast has been cranky about the backups, though, and my upload bandwidth has been going down the toilet while running the backups. It's been throttled down to about 1/5 of what it should be or lower. It should be 1.5Mb/sec, but it's been more like 300kb/sec.

It wanted to back up 180MB, so I tweaked the back up sets to skip some of the big chunks of data that I thought could wait, and got down to about 18MB of data that was vital, and restarted the backup.

Then I started getting "delayed write failures" on the main data drive.

Not happy.

I'm debating whether I want to get a WiebeTech drive adapter and pull the drive out of the enclosure in hopes of the problem being in the USB/Firewire bridge, or just looking into drive recovery options.

I have Mozy. It is really nice once the initial back up is done (it goes incremental after that). And Murphy being Murphy, I haven't had any problems with my drives since then.
Bummer about what is happening to Cable DSL. Real fast service until you need to use it to upload, then it sucks. Didn't they plan on any one needing to send files to other people?
The Turtle ads are getting more annoying too.

I ALWAYS get delay write errors on external drives if I write large amount of data, either Firewire or USB. Most annoying. This happens on different W2K machines with different firewire cards. I run the latest drive with USB2 and has no problem so far.

I blame Bill Gates.

It's doing the same thing on USB2.
