6 boxes of fabric sorted. 1 half-done (a mostly scary crap box). Three more in the garage (which I think are pretty well sorted).
Found my really nice purple herringbone wool.
Found some more
stmungo materials. A few odd calicos, a tiger-stripe black organza, a brown snakeskin velour, a green snakeskin velour...
Found nothing big enough suitable for hakama and kataginu.
If I don't find anything soon, it's either a storage-locker visit, or more shopping.

Date: 2007-08-17 10:05 am (UTC)when I was in Tokyo a few years ago, I was completely smitten by the traditional pants worn by the construction workers. I tried to figure out where to get some, but my (ex-pat) host was no help - I asked her about them, and she simply said they were "construction worker pants" - when I went on to ask her where to buy them, she replied "a construction worker store?"
Sadly, she had no idea where to find such a store (she was, however, very up on the best clubs to check out, got me several awesome DJ gigs, and we almost went to an outdoor, weekend-long rave at the base of Mount Fuji - so I can't really complain.)
The pants:

A bit of searching on "Japanese Work Pants" found something.
First, check out this article at PingMag (http://www.pingmag.jp/2006/01/18/construction-worker-fashion/) on Tobi (construction worker) fashion.
Tobi-Ya Clothing Store Murai (http://www2.famille.ne.jp/~tobiya/e-index.html) has "knickerbockers" (http://www2.famille.ne.jp/~tobiya/shopping/nikka.html) and other work pants available for on-line order.
