...about getting a digital photo frame to use for slide-shows for the CC26 fan table.

I haven't been thrilled with using my laptop. The screen is nice and big, but then the laptop is tied up.

I thought for a few minutes about using our old portable DVD player. It's an old Panasonic with a 5" screen, though. Not optimal.

Costco has a few digital photo frames at good prices. The Philips 9FF2M4 seems to be the best option. The Pandigital frame at Costco ($60 less) has been getting trashed in reviews.

I'm not sure, though. Battery life isn't thrilling...

...and I could buy a bunch of 4x6 print binder inserts and print a lot of pictures for $200 and tax.

Ah yes, but I suspect the attractive nuisance value of the slide show is worth it... and more people can watch at one time than can flip through a binder.

Plus, it's a lot easier (and cheaper) to change the pictures if they're all digital. You might want to also check out Sharper Image, I think they carry a digital picture frame (possibly more then one); and they have *excellent* customer service if something they sell you breaks.

Here's one of the ones that Sharper Image carries (they have several) - http://www.sharperimage.com/us/en/catalog/product/sku__MS411 It's a bit smaller, but it's also $70 cheaper.

The resolution is inadequate, unfortunately (480x234?)... Costco also carries a 7 inch display, but we moved up after checking the specs.

Also, the last few items we bought from Sharper Image were of uniformly disappointing quality.

That will teach me to just glance at the resolution.

That's surprising, they aren't known for poor quality products (although I haven't bought anything from them in a while).

I would almost suggest picking up a super cheapo ultra-outdated laptop of bargain basement origin and saying "You, my friend, are a glorified calculator and an image viewer"
the downside is that monitors are something that goes out on old units, expensively.
the upside is that it's less likely to be stolen because it will be a junker- and a junker which can be secured with a laptop locking cable.
the unlooked-for upside is that it could also play some silly little sort of self satisfied sound, or moan unhappily.

Some of the digital photo frames also play mp3s. They also weigh noticably less than a laptop.
