More "you're hurting Columbus and Denver" cries...

I didn't point out that Columbus is hurting itself already (by no-showing at Interaction without any warning) and that the Sunday Meeting is on Saturday this year...

I'm trying to figure out how to address this guy without stomping on him.

Saturday

Well, you read about Friday. Afterward, we ran off to Vin Santo for dinner because we both needed a break from the week.

Saturday was much nicer. We got up a bit earlier than I would have liked and picked up [livejournal.com profile] jsciv at his hotel to go to lunch. J has now been introduced to the San Jose institution that is Falafel Drive-in. While we were having lunch the Subaru's windshield (cracked on the return trip from Gallifrey) was replaced.

We got J to his car and then went to decorate our table for the Rainbow Chamber of Commerce Crab Carnivale (to benefit the RCOC scholarship fund and the Billy deFrank Center Youth Programs). We're members (or rather the Unconventional Foundation is a member) not because we expect to get business from it, but because the networking opportunites to get things for Costume-Con and the foundation. There was a bit of table confusion, but we got our banner up and our decorations taken care of.

The Crab Carnivale itself was a blast when we returned in the evening. $45 each got us salad, pasta and all the crab we could eat. Several of the better-connected businesspeople really went all out on their decorations.

We have to remember to bring a bottle of "Vino Tinto Barato" for Kate to taste; it's cheaper than the Smoking Loon red they've been offering at RCOC events and I think it's better. We helped a little bit with the clean-up and also helped Kate figure the tip split for the servers. At the end of it all, there was crab left over, so we snagged a bit.

Sunday

Sunday was another "get up too early" day, because we had to be in Alameda at East Ocean Seafood Restaurant to join [livejournal.com profile] mzmtnlion, [livejournal.com profile] rivetheretic, [livejournal.com profile] jkuroda, [livejournal.com profile] danaoshee, [livejournal.com profile] shalyndra and a few others for dim sum.

This time we got there on time (we were first, actually), and got a good start. It wasn't quite the feeding frenzy that the previous stop was; we had done the Crab Carnivale the night before and [livejournal.com profile] mzmtnlion had done fondue with a few friends.

After plenty of jiggly rice-flour food, we popped over to Jack London Square to see V for Vendetta. See it. It's fabulous. It's definitely a more modern take on conservative fascist governments than the graphic novel (steeped as it was in Aryan nationalism and Thatcher conservatism).

Instead of just hauling home, we walked over to the Barnes and Noble, and raided the cheapo rack quite successfully. I snagged a copy of the V for Vendetta graphic novel (not on the cheapo rack), a few William S. Burroughs books (also not on the cheapo rack, but I'm in a wild prose mood at the moment), a history of candy and sweets, a copy of A Cook's Tour and the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy movie production and design book.

Finally we did go home, ordered a pizza, and I spent some time cracking and picking a bag of crab from Saturday night (hence the bit about avoiding typing).
