If you're fannish, and particularly if you believe fandom isn't the internet, it would behoove you to check out fanthropology and this post.

It starts out, relatively sanely, as a discussion of how Mercedes Lackey manages her fanbase and derivative works, but goes weird in the comments. fanthropology is a pretty internet-centric group (and this needs to be balanced), but this is a bit beyond.

I had no idea Misty Lackey was involved in managing MZB's estate. I thought Lisa Waters (or whatever she's calling herself these days) was in charge.

Well, one of the reasons we don't have the lyrics for "Little Green Eyes" on our online list of lyrics for Kathy Mar's "Plus ça Change" CD (we publish this CD) is because Kathy says there would be a stink with Misty about putting them up. Even though any idiot with half a brain can LISTEN to the song on the CD and transcribe the lyrics themselves, albeit they might fuck up and transcribe them incorrectly and then mangle them profusely at Filksings. *rolleyes* Seems utterly stupid to me. I'd put them online in a fan capacity anyway, but I don't "dare do so" in a business capacity.
