So between our work on our Costume-Con bid and [livejournal.com profile] kproche's work as Emperor, we've been getting involved with the San Jose Rainbow Chamber of Commerce. It's actually been a lot of fun. RCoC is made up primarily of queer-owned and queer-friendly small businesses (very heavy in the real estate sector) and offers a lot of networking opportunities that wouldn't come along otherwise.

But on to the BBQ...

We schlepped in our PA system so announcements would be less of a trial. Red Rock Grill catered in a fabulous little meal at the home of Michael LoMonaco. The thronging crowds (and it really was, Rainbow Chamber has been growing by leaps and bounds the last few months) were all having a fabulous time.

At the end of the evening, Michael L and Mark Gillard announced some new initiatives, including a scholarship program and a donation program supporting the DeFrank LGBT Community Center.

The finale was the high-ticket prize drawing. In addition to stainless coffee mugs and goofy garden gnomes, there were some serious prizes (Mark Gillard: "we've got a first prize and a grand prize, how gay is that?"). The Grand Prize winner ($1k cash) donated the prize (not the only one she won, but the only cash) back to the DeFrank Center.
