I made that joke on Kevin's LJ a year or two ago. One of the Corpses got very upset. But is is very appropriate.

I'm starting a campaign called "Sci-Fi Is Okay" to reclaim the word "Sci-Fi" for fannish uses. Fandom's had such an inferiority complex about the term, that somehow we didn't notice when Sci-Fi channel started up two decades ago.

My point is that Sci-Fi is now used by the general populace to refer to that skiffy stuff, and not just to B-Movie fare. And that Sci-Fi has exactly as much (or as little) legitimacy as Science Fiction. (See also Ansible's regular "As others see us" quotes column.)
