Oats!

I've had it with McCann's Steel-Cut Irish Oatmeal. Sure, it comes in a nice tin and it's from Ireland, but the last few cans have smelled (and tasted) of stale vegetable shortening.

Yeah, oats are high in fats as grains go, but they shouldn't smell like oxidized fat right after you open the can.

I haven't been thrilled with the Safeway Organic steel-cut oats either.

TJ's carries Country Choice Organic Steel Cut Oats and they're pretty damned good. They smell nice and clean when you open the canister

I wish they had a TJ in Omaha; the times I've been in the one down in St. Louis, they seem ideal for getting meal-for-one/two stuff. Mary is almost addicted to their black/green tea, and their barbeque sauce is perfect for pork.

Irish oats, weird - having grown up in Ireland all the oats brands we had were Scottish.

I think all the Irish oats are exported to the US...

Steel cut? As in Samurai Organic Oats Repairman?

No, as in Samurai Oatmeal Cats.
