I was amazed that they kept *all* of the critical plot points from the book, in the context of setting it in contemporary times. So many of the Bond films kept nothing beyond the title of the Ian Fleming source.

They replaced Smert' Shpionam (Smersh) with a vague unnamed terrorist organization, but Le Chiffre was still an evil banker just as in the book.
