The camera industry spent the holiday season in the "we've got a ton of product in the channel, we need to cut prices to move it" mode. That only worked so well for them, and they're switching to the "we've got to cut supply and preserve our margins" mode. A lot of the great camera deals are drying up.
Fortunately, there's Costco. Where everybody else does "instant rebates" or other manufacturer-supported tricks to reduce prices, Costco usually just pays less wholesale for the stuff they're selling, often the same price that the regular vendors end up netting after they collect the post-sale "instant rebate" credit from the manufacturer.
Costco.com still has their holiday pricing on the Nikon D90 2 lens kit. List price $1849. Advertised price $1749. Actual price in cart $1599. With a "free" 2gb SD card. The price is advertised through January 31, "while supplies last."
Now I just have to get the rest of the bits and bobs I need:

- ColorMunki Photo: The coolest, simplest color calibration tool on the market, and also the best bargain for display and printer calibration
- The Nkon School Hands-On Guide to Creative Lighting: Word has it, an incredibly useful tour of what the Nikon flash system can do and how to use it, and certainly worth viewing before buying flash equipment
- ViewSonic VP2250wb display: The bargain pro-grade color flat screen (to replace our 7-year old LCD screen)
- ML-L3 Wireless Remote: A really cheap (as in cheaper than cable solutions) and effective "cable release"
