May. 1st, 2006 02:37 pmOne unfortunate side-effect of the new TV is being able to see how heavy the compression on Comcast Digital Cable is.
K decided he wanted to watch Deep Rising on Starz (digital) yesterday. The backgrounds were loaded with blocky compression artifacts. It's not really obvious when you're a few feet from the TV, but when you're sitting right in front of it adjusting the set and the cable box the 1/4" or larger blocks in the background are impossible to miss.
Oh, and speaking of digital cable, the new TV makes watching pan-and-scan versions for TV even more painful. Nothing like having black bars at the side of the screen where you know there should be picture...
